Noel-Levitz Survey Results - Spring 2009
Noel-Levitz Survey Results - Spring 2009

Executive Summary

Forty-two MVC Spring 2009 credit classes were selected by stratified random sample to participate in the Noel-Levitz Student Satisfaction Inventory Survey (SSI).  A total of 1,000 surveys were distributed.  Faculty members were asked to administer the surveys during one of the class periods within the two week period before Spring Break (March 2-13, 2009).  A total of 694 (69%) completed surveys were returned.  The 694 students represent 9.5% of the College’s Spring 2009 credit student headcount and are representative of the MVC student body.

Note: In Spring 2009, MVC students rated 64 out of 70 campus experience items with a higher average satisfaction than MVC Spring 2007 results, and 38 of the increases were statistically significant.

Spring 2009 Strengths and Opportunities  19 Strength items were identifed with average importance above the midpoint and average satisfaction ratings in the upper quartile.  14 Opportunity items were identified with average importance above the midpoint and average satisfaction ratings in the lower quartile OR performance gaps* in the upper quartile. (* Performance gap = difference between an item's average importance and average satisfaction)

Spring 2009 Summary Scale (SSI item Groupings) Comparison Charts  11 of 12 SSI Scales increased over MVC Spring 2007.  Summary Scale bar charts with corresponding item detail tables compare MVC 2009 with MVC 2007, DCCCD, other Texas colleges, and the National group.

Spring 2009 Local Items Results and Majors  10 MVC specific  campus experience items and a six answer multiple choice about student MVC information sources.  MVC student respondent majors.

Spring 2009 Enrollment Decision Factors and Overall Expectations-Satisfaction  9 items rated with average importance about students' enrollment decisions. 3 items about overall college expectation and satisfaction.

These interactive HTML reports provided by Noel-Levitz contain four different comparisons.  Comparison groups are described below the reports.  (Note: Use the drop down menu located in the upper right corner of each HTML report to select the data you want to review.  Survey response data can be sorted, viewed, and printed in multiple ways using the column heading hyper-links.)

Comparison Groups:
(1) MVC Spring 2007:  968 MVC students from in-class administration of SSI during March 19-30, 2007
(2) DCCCD Group: 12,398 students from all seven DCCCD colleges - includes the most recent administration of the SSI from each college
(3) Other Texas College Group: 7,769 students from: Blinn College, Brazosport College, Collin County Community College District, Galveston College, Laredo Community College, Northeast Texas Community College, Palo Alto College, San Antonio College, and South Plains College
(4) National Group: 198,833 students from 244 community colleges surveyed between Fall 2005 and Spring 2008

Understanding the Noel-Levitz Student Satisfaction Inventory Results:  Campus experience items 1-80 are each rated two different ways:  1) "Importance" on a scale of 1-7; and 2) "Satisfaction" on a scale of 1 to 7; with 7 representing the highest.
The Noel-Levitz Surveys Interpretive Guide provides a complete explanation of how to interpret the MVC Spring 2009 Noel-Levitz Survey Results.
