SYNOPSIS OF EMERGENCY PROCEDURES
FIRE
Alarm: A loud chirping sound and flashing lights signal a fire.
- Take all personal items and evacuate the building at the nearest exit.
- Assist handicapped individuals out of the building.
- Do not use elevators.
- Move away from the building at least 300 feet.
- Re-enter the building only after signaled by the Campus Police.
TORNADO
Campus Police will announce over the building intercoms or telephones to seek shelter. This alert also may be given by the sound of a siren using one continuous blast of bullhorns. Take personal items and proceed to the following emergency areas or to foyers that are shaded in green on the map mounted on the classroom or work area walls:
EMERGENCY AREAS (lower levels of the West and East Buildings): W45, W43, W41, W48, W49, W56, W57, W58, W59, W61, W63, W74, E03, E04, E25A, E36, E37, E38
Seek Shelter in the lower level of the since building in any of the rooms on the west side of the building.
WEAPONS
Dial 214-860-8758 from any outside phone or cell phone or 8758 from any campus office phone and give the officer all information requested.
Start immediate evacuation of the area. Do not approach the person or inquire about the weapon under any circumstance.
CHEMICAL SPILL
Notify all individuals in the area. Leave the area immediately and take all personal items.
Call the Campus Police at 214-860-8758 from any outside phone or cell phone or 8758 from any campus office phone safely away from the chemical spill and give all requested information.
- Attempt to secure the area.
- Keep others out of the area.
HOSTAGE SITUATION
Dial 214-860-8758 from any outside phone or cell phone or 8758 from any campus office phone.
- Give police officers all information requested.
- Alert others in the immediate area of the danger.
- Evacuate through the safest exit possible.
- If you can evacuate safely, close and lock the door and stay
- in your work area until the proper authority exclaims “ALL CLEAR”.
- If you are take hostage, cooperate with the individual.
MEDICAL EMERGENCY
Send someone to call 9-911 in a life- threatening emergency from any campus office phone to contact Dallas City Emergency. Dial 214-860-8758 from any outside phone or cell phone or 8758 from any campus office to contact campus police.
Render Aid: Check breathing; if necessary, give CPR, Attempt to stop excessive bleeding.

REPORTING CRIME
Dial 214.860.8758 or dial 8758 from any campus phone.
What to Report to the Campus Police:
- If property is missing or stolen
- You are threaten/verbally abused
- You are assaulted
- You have been injured or exposed to blood
- You witnessed or have knowledge of: theft, vandalism, threats, arguments, verbal abuse, drugs, and traffic accidents/violations/speeding
- Security Issues: trip hazards, electrical hazards, inoperative doors/outdoor lighting, parking hazards, suspicious activity, disruptive students, locked/malfunctioning doors, fire hazards.
BOMB THREAT
Keep the caller on the line
Ask the caller for pertinent information. Complete bomb questionnaire (see below)
QUESTIONNAIRE
- Record all information from the caller.
- Note all background noises.
- Note all characteristics of the caller’s voice.
- Does the voice sound familiar?
- Note the time/date call received.
- Record number on the caller ID
- Record number/extension the call was received on.
- After the caller hangs up, dial 214-860-8758 and give the information requested.
- Close all windows and doors in the area.
- Evacuate the building at the nearest exit and take necessary personal items.
- Go to a Safe zone.
- Do not re-enter the building until permitted by the proper authority.
