B.S., Pan American University; Edinburg, Tx; 1971 Masters in Education; Pan American University; Edinburg, Tx; 1984 Mr. Barron has 20 years of public school teaching in varous school districts in Texas. He has taught at Alamo Community College District in San Antonio, TX. He also taught at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, TX from 1992-1999. He started teaching at MVC in the fall of 1999. While at Tarleton he was a student teacher supervisor of prospective math teachers. He is a member of the National Council of Math Teachers. He has been a speaker at the Conference for the Advancement of Mathematics Teachers from 1999-2003. While teaching at Mountain View he has completed several reports on institutional effectiveness concerning our developmental mathematics program. Some of his data was used in the Title V report which MVC was awarded in 2001.

Dr. Paul Benson is a Professor of English, Religion, and Humanities. He holds a B.A. in English from Pacific Lutheran College, an M.A. in English from Colorado State University, and a Ph.D. in English from The University of North Texas. As a Mountain View College "Pioneer" faculty member, Dr. Benson has taught at MVC since 1970. He brings a broad range of interests to his teaching. He has published articles in both literature and music. His interest in cultures around the world sparked his co-founding of the Texas Cultural Alliance and its program, "Excursions," through which he has organized student tours of ancient sites around the world.
Over the years, Dr. Benson has received just about every honor in teaching including nomination for the "Minnie Stephens Piper Professorship" as the most outstanding teacher at Mountain View College and "Innovator of the Year" for his humanities program, "Project Show." Dr. Benson is a national leader in community college humanities instruction and has served on the national Board of Directors of the Community College Humanities Association. Complementing his creative video productions, most recently, he has initiated instruction in composition in a distant learning format and is in the process of developing instructional CDs in the humanities.

Dr. Bruce Coad is a Professor of English with a specialization in modern American literature. He holds a M.A. in English from the University of North Carolina and Ph.D. in English from Duke University. A former chair of the English Department with more than twenty-five years of teaching in the community college, Dr. Coad is recognized nationally for his research on student retention. A 1989 Mountain View College "Innovator of the Year," in 1991, Dr. Coad was nominated by his peers as the recipient of the "Minnie Stephens Piper Professorship" as the most outstanding instructor at Mountain View College.

Dr. Gary Ergish began his post-secondary education at San Antonio College on a music scholarship where he played several brass instruments in the symphonic band. When he ventured to the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), he got “hooked” on biology and statistics. During his studies at UTSA, he was elected president of the local chapter of the Phi Sigma Society—a society devoted to the promotion of research in the biological sciences. He graduated from UTSA with a B.S. in Biology. After graduation in 1979, Gary worked for the San Antonio-based research institution, Southwest Research Institute. Finding work “too much like work,” he joined the U.S. Air Force. After completing Navigator training, he was assigned to B-52H aircraft at Minot AFB, North Dakota. While in the Air Force, Gary discovered his love for the academic environment. After becoming an academic and flight instructor in 1985, he began his career in academia. His first academic positions, besides teaching, were that of Registrar followed by Assistant Provost. In 1987, Gary was reassigned to the B-1B aircraft with a later follow-on assignment to the B-1 “schoolhouse” at Dyess AFB in Abilene, Texas. During his first six years at the B-1 training schoolhouse, Gary began as full-time faculty teaching and evaluating navigation procedures, and airmanship to new navigators seeking flight qualification in the B-1. Among his later schoolhouse positions, Gary served as Assistant Director of Student Services, Assistant Director of Academics, Faculty Development Director, Director of Teacher Training, and Department Chair. In 1992, while completing his Master’s in Management and Human Relations from Abilene Christian University, Gary began his doctoral studies at Texas Tech University. A move to Alabama to join the graduate faculty at the Air Force’s Air Command and Staff College (ACSC) slowed the writing of his dissertation on developing curriculum feedback protocols in Higher Education. However, to the relief of his family, Gary finally graduated from Texas Tech in 1997 with an Ed.D. in Higher Education, and as a member of Phi Kappa Phi. During the three years at ACSC, he held the positions of full-time graduate faculty and research advisor, one of the institution’s six course directors that produce the entire academic years’ course materials and lectures, and ended as an Assistant Department Chair. In 1998, Gary returned to the B-1 schoolhouse in Abilene and in the same year completed his Master’s in History from the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa. As a senior educator, he moved through the positions of Associate Provost, Senior Academic and Flight Scheduler, Senior Curriculum Developer and Evaluator, duty at the Joint Command Headquarters in Baghdad, Iraq, and ended his 24-year career in 2005, with the position as Dean of Instruction for the entire B-1 training program. Since 2000, Gary has also taught with Embry-Riddle University at its center in Abilene, Texas. As an Adjunct Associate Professor, he has taught both graduate and undergraduate courses in Statistics, Research Methods, Human Resource Management, Operational Research, Education, and History. He has chaired 28 Master’s theses to-date.

Dr. Susan Ferguson is almost a pioneer at Mountain View College, joining the English faculty in 1971, the second year of the institution. A scholar in Shakespearean studies, Dr. Ferguson brings the classics of British and world literature to life in ways that leave her students following her from class to class, one semester after another.
Professor Ferguson holds a B.A. in English and Philosophy from the University of Dallas and a M. A. and Ph.D. in English from the University of North Texas.
Dr. Ferguson combines her work in at Mountain View College with a second "career" in public service. Moved by the plight of the poor and engaged for years in women's advocacy work, she entered the Texas Wesleyan School of Law in Fort Worth and finished her Doctorate in Jurisprudence in June, 1994. She has served as an editor for articles published in the Law Review, and American Jurisprudence, and served as an intern for two years with Justice Linda Thomas.
Deeply involved in the life of her community, Dr. Ferguson provides services to The Family Place and Shor Provider, and was runner up for the distinguished "Maat Justice Award" by the Women's Division of the State Bar of Texas for her contribution of more than 200 hours of pro bono legal work in the first six months of her law practice.

My role is to provide a stellar chemistry education to all students, oversee the maintenance of chemical curriculum on the Mountain View campus and to implement supplementary educationto support the teaching of chemical concepts and facts on the Mountain View College campus. Responsibilities: My responsibilities are to educate students, design curriculum competitive to that of other community colleges and universities, verify and discuss District chemistry curriculum, participate on a variety of collegiate and district committees, work in collaboration with other physical and biological science faculty and provide a healthy learning atmosphere for our science students. Goals: My goals for the Chemistry Department at MVC are to provide more tutoring service by acquiring more staff, to promote scientific dialogue and knowledge, to enhance the scientific experience through readily accessible modalities, computer and other supplementary materials, and to encourage our students to be all that they can be. She has an interest in promoting wellness. Her hobbies include gardening, traveling, and photography. Cristina Medina is full-time Professor of Visual Arts and Humanities. The instructor uses collaborative learning as a way to teach in the classroom - students work together in groups on a daily basis to discuss topics, study, encourage and strengthen classroom community. Face to face interaction with other students and the instructor occurs almost every class time. Assignments include reading, writing, attendance to campus events, group activities during class and a creative final project that focuses on students' individual personalities and identities. The instructor also uses eCampus online to enhance the student experience both in and outside of class. Common Book Participation: Autobiography of a Face by Lucy Grealy, some assignments will include reading this novel and discussing topics related to the reading, such as family, illness, self-identity, self-perception, the face, and portraiture FIPSE Participation: Family Involvement in Post Secondary Education, some assignments will encourage the involvement of the student's family and create opportunities for the participation of family members in the student's experience in college Emphasis in Mexican-American/Latino Studies: classes will cover regular topics related to the course, in addition the class will explore topics and themes found in Mexican-American and other Latino cultures

Originally a member of the project steering committee that drafted the first FIPSE grant application and subsequent planning grant, René now directs the 2006 - 2008 "Family Involvement for Latino Success in College" research project. A former director of Continuing Education programs for Brookhaven College, René brings years of administrative experience and critical insight into successful learning systems in higher education.
